Labour Party Names Public Health Expert Hajja Bintu Konto as Twenty-Twenty-Seven Vice Presidential Candidate

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Labour Party has officially announced Hajja Bintu Konto as its vice-presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Mrs. Konto will join the party's presidential flagbearer, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, on the joint executive ticket.

An official statement issued by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, revealed that the selection was finalized following extensive consultations with critical stakeholders across the country. Asogwa noted that the choice reflects the political organization's unwavering commitment to offering the Nigerian electorate a balanced ticket that embodies professional competence, integrity, inclusiveness, patriotism, and a proven capacity for effective public service.

Hajja Konto brings a diverse background in healthcare administration and academia to the national campaign. A professional nurse, midwife, health educator, and public health specialist, she holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health and has worked as a lecturer in community health.

Her administrative footprint in the health sector includes current service as a member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund in Nigeria. Additionally, she serves as the National Treasurer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization, and Nutrition, alongside holding memberships in several other prominent professional and humanitarian bodies.
