NEW YORK — Billionaire pop icon Taylor Swift paid more than $160,000 for a New York City municipal permit to host her high-profile wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden earlier this month, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed on Friday.
The mayor clarified the details during a press briefing when reporters questioned whether the Grammy-winning singer would reimburse taxpayers for the substantial police overtime required to secure the celebrity-packed event. Mayor Mamdani explained that the extensive operational costs had already been handled through official channels.
According to the mayor, Swift covered the financial demands of the event and the city's logistical reaction prior to the festivities, with the finalized permit fee exceeding $160,000.
The blockbuster nuptials, which spanned two days in midtown Manhattan, drew hundreds of A-list celebrities and required a massive deployment of law enforcement personnel. To accommodate the scale of the gathering and manage safety, the New York City Police Department closed off multiple major streets surrounding the iconic indoor arena.
While the total production budget for the star-studded event has not been publicly detailed, financial estimates published by Forbes magazine suggest the entire celebration exceeded $20 million. Additionally, ahead of their high-profile ceremony, the newlywed couple collectively donated $26 million to various charitable organizations nationwide.
