The Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni (JP), is celebrating two years in office with an impressive record of achievements that have transformed critical sectors of the council area and improved the quality of life of the people.
Over the past two years, the Ofoni administration has pursued an ambitious development agenda anchored on infrastructure renewal, healthcare, education, environmental sanitation, agriculture, youth empowerment, security, economic growth, and the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Uvwie people. Through strategic planning and effective project execution, the administration has continued to deliver people-centred programmes that have earned widespread commendation from residents and stakeholders across the local government.
Since assuming office, Chief Ofoni has pursued an ambitious development agenda focused on infrastructure, healthcare, education, environmental sanitation, agriculture, security, youth empowerment, economic development, and the preservation of Uvwie's rich cultural heritage. His administration has continued to implement projects and programmes aimed at improving the living standards of the people while laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.
One of the flagship achievements of the administration is the construction of the Atata Ultra Modern Market at Okuatata, designed to stimulate commerce, provide a conducive trading environment, and create more economic opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs. The administration has also commenced the Ekpan Modern Market (Phase One) while making significant progress towards additional phases of the Ekpan and Ugboroke Modern Market and Abattoir Projects, all geared towards modernising commercial activities across the local government.
In the health sector, Chief Ofoni's administration has recorded significant milestones through the construction and support of the Home Cottage Hospital at Iteregbi, as well as the donation of a fully equipped ambulance to improve emergency healthcare delivery. The administration also rehabilitated the Aruakpor-Umah Community Health Centre through the provision of modern health facilities to improve access to quality healthcare services.
To further strengthen public health, thousands of insecticide-treated mosquito nets have been distributed across communities in Uvwie as part of efforts to reduce malaria and promote healthier living conditions.
Environmental sanitation has remained one of the defining features of the administration. A well-structured beautification committee has transformed the appearance of major roads and public spaces across Uvwie. Kerbs have been painted to improve aesthetics, while road sweepers have been engaged to maintain cleanliness throughout the council area.
To enhance waste management, the administration procured a compact waste collection truck for efficient evacuation and transportation of refuse to designated dumpsites, significantly improving sanitation and environmental sustainability.
Chief Ofoni's administration has also demonstrated commitment to improving transportation by maintaining several failed portions of roads across the local government. His close collaboration with state authorities has equally supported ongoing road infrastructure improvements in strategic areas.
Agriculture has received renewed attention with the purchase of five acres of land for Uvwie Farms, an initiative aimed at promoting food production, creating employment opportunities, and encouraging youth participation in agriculture.
The administration has also supported small-scale businesses by providing grants to petty traders, helping many entrepreneurs expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Education remains a priority under the Ofoni administration. Through the Ofoni Cares Back2School Programme, thousands of primary school pupils have received school bags, exercise books, writing materials, and other educational supplies to encourage learning and reduce the burden on parents.
Recognising the importance of youth development, the administration has organised vocational training programmes to equip young people with practical skills for self-employment and economic independence.
The council has also promoted sports development by supporting local athletes, a commitment that contributed to Uvwie emerging victorious in the Sheriff Oborevwori Junior Under-23 Football Tournament, showcasing the abundance of sporting talent within the local government.
Security has remained central to the administration's agenda. Through strategic partnerships with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, law and order have been strengthened across Uvwie. The administration has also taken decisive steps against criminality by issuing quit notices to illegal drug sellers and tackling drug abuse within communities.
In addition, perimeter fencing of the Effurun Market has enhanced the security of traders and their goods while helping to reduce traffic congestion around the busy commercial area.
The administration has equally provided a transformer to the Ohore Community, improving electricity supply and supporting businesses and households.
Within the council secretariat, Chief Ofoni has initiated the construction of a gigantic administrative block aimed at improving service delivery and creating a more efficient working environment for council staff. His administration also donated a Toyota Sienna bus to the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Uvwie Chapter, to enhance operational efficiency.
One of the most innovative achievements of the administration has been its commitment to preserving the Uvwie language, culture, and traditions through the Digital Uvwie Initiative, which leverages artificial intelligence to document and promote the cultural identity of the Uvwie people for future generations.
Chief Ofoni's administration has also maintained a firm stance on discipline, respect for traditional institutions, and responsible leadership, operating a zero-tolerance policy against acts that undermine elders, traditional rulers, chiefs, and constituted authorities.
As Uvwie marks this significant two-year milestone, many residents describe the administration as one driven by vision, accountability, accessibility, and practical solutions to community needs. Observers say the breadth of projects executed reflects the chairman's experience in administration, project monitoring, and grassroots governance.
The administration's achievements also align with the developmental vision of the Delta State Government under Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori's M.O.R.E. Agenda, further advancing infrastructure, social welfare, and economic development within Uvwie Local Government Area.
As celebrations continue, stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, market associations, and residents have congratulated Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni (JP) on his second anniversary in office, expressing confidence that his administration will continue to deliver projects and programmes that improve the quality of life of the people.
With two years already recorded, the Ofoni administration says it remains committed to building a more prosperous, peaceful, cleaner, and economically vibrant Uvwie, while ensuring that the dividends of democracy continue to reach every community across the local government area.
