Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has described teachers as the architects of Nigeria’s future, urging greater investment in their welfare, professional development and working conditions.
Dafinone, in a message to commemorate World Teachers’ Day, paid tribute to teachers in Delta Central and across Nigeria for their contributions to educating and shaping the nation's younger generation.
He said no nation could rise above the quality of its education system, stressing that teachers remained at the heart of every successful education system through their knowledge, sacrifice and dedication.
According to him, teachers perform responsibilities beyond the classroom by moulding character, inspiring ambition and equipping young people with the values, confidence and skills required to confront future challenges.
He noted that classrooms serve as environments where dreams are nurtured and the foundations for responsible citizenship and national development are established.
Dafinone also emphasised the significant role teachers have played in the lives of accomplished professionals, entrepreneurs, public servants and leaders, noting that behind many successful Nigerians was the influence of a teacher.
The senator therefore called for sustained investment in the welfare, capacity and dignity of teachers, describing such investment as not only an investment in education but also in the future of Nigeria.
He urged relevant authorities to address challenges confronting the teaching profession through improved working conditions, appropriate remuneration, continuous professional development, modern teaching tools and conducive learning environments.
Dafinone particularly commended teachers across Delta Central who continue to discharge their responsibilities despite difficult circumstances, describing their resilience and commitment as worthy of recognition.
He wished teachers across the country a happy World Teachers’ Day and expressed hope that the lives they shape today would become the source of strength, leadership and prosperity for Nigeria in the future.
