Jesus never avoided His legitimate responsibilities. Even Temple tax for Him was not avoided. He made provision and paid, even for Peter. We are called to follow His example in life and conduct. And if this was His manner of living, dare we be different? There are many legitimate bills a Christian ought to pay: if you live in a country where electricity bills are supposed to be paid by all citizens, then you must pay; if you are in a country where income tax is been paid, then you must pay; if you are in a country where ground rent (for landlords) is to be paid, then you should pay; if you are in a country where there is always renewal of motor licence and insurance, then you must do so; if you are living in a country where paying of house rent (if living in a rented place) is your responsibility, then you must not avoid or run away from your responsibility. Note that irresponsible living will rob us of credibility and legitimacy in preaching the gospel.
Responsible citizen is expected of us and it glorifies our saviour. Many of us do not even register to vote during elections. But later we complain that godless men are in authority. We must play our part because it is necessary for all of us in a given country to play our role. We cannot claim to follow Christ when our actions bring Him ridicule. If you are a Christian, I will admonish you to check and see if there is any way you are dodging any of your responsibility such as avoiding paying of tax to make more profits or gains.
