The Scripture says, “Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble” (Job 14:1). Yet nobody wants to hear that his or her tomorrow will be full of grief. You can be sure that none of us will have a good sleep tonight if we were told tomorrow would be a sad day. Jesus had this ugly experience a day to His crucifixion. He told His disciples: “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death’ (Matthew 26:38). This is human, hence we all experience sorrow from time to time.
However, what is important to take note of in life is that there is time for everything. A time to weep and a time to laugh (see Ecclesiastes 3:4). In the Bible passage as recorded in Zachariah 12:1-14, the inhabitants of Jerusalem are assured of God’s defence against their enemies. Jerusalem, the capital city of Biblical Judah, saw days full of great troubles. It must be cheering news for them to hear that next time around, the Lord was going to bring defeat upon the nations that gather against them. Notice the strong words used against Jerusalem’s enemies and their weapons: Jerusalem would be made “a cup of drunkenness” and “a very heavy stone” that would cause her enemies to be “cut in pieces”; just as every horse would be struck with “confusion’ and “blindness” and the rider with “madness” (read Zachariah 12:1-4).
There is a good news for you too if you are in Christ Jesus because you belong to the new Jerusalem (the bride of Christ, the Holy City – Revelation 21:2, 9-10)
