When the uneasy sensation called hunger occurs in our stomachs, we know we must take food or starve. Similarly, when the soul is awakened to its wants of hunger and thirst, it must be satisfied appropriately with righteousness or holiness which is its food and drink. This righteousness comes from the forgiveness of sin. Righteousness denotes spiritual conformity to the law of God. Jesus, by saying, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness….” means those whose deepest desire or cravings are after spiritual blessings. For such people, He promises: “they shall be filled’
The Gospel has provision to satisfy all who hunger and thirst for righteousness. What do you hunger and thirst for? What do you run after –physical food/drink, wickedness, evil, wealth, power, certificate? Nothing is worth pursuing except a life of righteousness. Remember, you get what you pursue! Choose to do what is right today by trusting not in your righteousness but that of Christ Jesus.
