It is clear that the epileptic attack on the boy in the Bible is as a result of demonic activities. When Jesus rebuked the demon, it came out of him and the child was cured from that very hour. When we are careful to trace the source of attacks, we stand in a better position to pray appropriately. Care should be taken however to ensure that we do not presumptuously do this without proper preparation. The disciples failed and Jesus told them why.
This is as a result of unbelief. This has to do with not trusting God enough to believe that He will do what His word says He will do. Some things can only be handled by prayer and fasting. Prayer and fasting are Christian disciplines that every child of God must be engaged in. A prayerful Christian will always remain a threat to the devil. Prayer also keeps us away from sin. One cannot be genuinely praying and at the same time engage in deliberate sin. Fasting disciplines us, reducing the influence of the flesh so that one can be more engaged in effective praying. We see both disciplines in the life of Jesus. We should seek to do no less. Are you praying? When was the last time you fasted? If you are not praying, you are probably playing!
