The Control of Infectious Diseases Bill sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, is one that has caused contention all over the country since it passed it's second reading.
The Bill is one which grants the NCDC DG as well as policemen the freedom to act, arrest or detain Nigeria citizens over situations that they deem necessary.
The whole bill which after investigation turned out to be a mere replica of the Singaporean Infectious Diseases Bill of 1977 in many ways contradicted the Human Rights Clause contained in the Nigerian Constitution.
The Bill was introduced in Singapore during the regime of its notorious dictator Lee Kuan Yew, and as such has little regard for the citizens.
The speed with which the Speaker of House of Representatives is championing this bill has led to the rise of many speculations on the safety of Nigerians in the country seeing as the members of the legislative were not even given the opportunity to debate on the bill before it was passed.
