The Lagos State government clarified that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not announce an increase in the state’s minimum wage to N70,000, as some media reports suggested.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, explained that the misunderstanding came from the launch of a program to support the poor.
Omotoso clarified that while civil servants now earn a total of N70,000, this is due to a N35,000 wage award on top of their original salary, not a new minimum wage.
The governor was misquoted, and the state government is not officially raising the minimum wage to N70,000.
