Segun Adewale, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is the leader Nigeria requires to revitalize its economy.
Adewale, who previously served as the Lagos State chairman of the party, expressed his views to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos, emphasizing that Abubakar should not be dismissed politically or urged to leave the PDP.
It is worth noting that some of Abubakar’s critics, including former PDP Deputy National Chairman Chief Olabode George and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, have advised him against running on the PDP platform in the 2027 elections.
George recently called for Abubakar to resign from the PDP due to alleged anti-party activities, while Fayose stated he would oppose Abubakar’s presidential ambitions if he chooses to run in 2027.
Adewale, widely known as Aeroland, expressed that no one should interfere with the ambitions of the former vice president.
“He (Abubakar) has been tested and proven as one of the few politicians who are genuinely content, and he has never wavered in his resolve.
“He has held power and understands the intricacies of Nigerian politics. He is aware of our challenges, unlike other politicians who seek power merely for personal gain.
“Atiku is one of the few politicians I know who is satisfied with what he has, while many of his critics are simply greedy.
“It is unfortunate that the most persistent opposition to Atiku comes from within the PDP, his own party, rather than from outside it,” Adewale remarked.
He lamented that members of the PDP are the ones fiercely opposing Abubakar’s proposed coalition aimed at defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and restoring the party to power.
“Anyone within the PDP suggesting that Atiku should not run in 2027 is effectively working against the party and aiding the opposition,” he concluded.
“They are motivated by personal interests and should not be heeded. We need to disregard their opinions.
Adewale stated, “All dissenting voices within our party are driven by self-interest, not by the welfare of Nigeria.”
He asserted that no opposition party could defeat the ruling party on its own, not even Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Adewale called for a reform of Nigeria’s electoral system to strengthen democracy, claiming he has been repeatedly denied electoral victories in Lagos State due to a flawed system.
“It’s not about individual intelligence or popularity; it’s about the system. We must unite to address this issue before the 2027 elections.”
He emphasized that Nigerians are weary of poor governance and are seeking change and a breath of fresh air.
