Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has warned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and other opposition figures that they cannot take over the party for their personal conflicts with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He emphasized that the SDP is not a “getaway car for conspiracy and theft.”
Adebayo made these remarks on Monday night during his wife, Queen Lillian Adebayo’s 50th birthday celebration in Abuja.
The legal expert, who confirmed his intention to run in the 2027 presidential elections, asserted that the SDP is not a venue for individual political disputes.
“My party is aware that I am campaigning for the 2027 election. Regarding the coalition, we are open to discussions. However, we refuse to be a getaway car for a conspiracy and theft that we did not orchestrate. That is not an option.
“My party is fully aware that I am running for the 2027 election. Regarding the coalition, we are open to dialogue. We do not want to be used as a getaway vehicle for a conspiracy or robbery that we did not orchestrate. That is not an option.
If the coalition is genuinely for the Nigerian people, the SDP is ready to engage. However, if it merely serves as a refuge for disillusioned Tinubu supporters, they should return to him to resolve their issues. We will not be drawn into a conflict that does not involve us,” he stated.
In response to the violence in Benue and Plateau, Adebayo urged the president to rethink the security framework to effectively tackle the country’s insecurity.
“Tinubu is doing a lot for the North,” said the APC zonal Chairman to Atiku and el-Rufai. SDP chairmen are encouraging El-Rufai and others to join our party from their local wards.
Similarly, former African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate Omoyele Sowore criticized the ongoing coalition efforts by opposition groups in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.”
