Tom FredFish, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chairman of the PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice (PAPAJ), has urged the party to allocate its presidential ticket to the South-South region, specifically to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike. He believes this move would be beneficial for the party’s future.
Speaking at a media event in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, FredFish emphasized that nominating Wike as the presidential candidate is essential for restoring peace within the party and honoring its longstanding zoning agreement, as proposed by the FCT Minister.
He criticized the PDP’s recent establishment of a reconciliation committee, questioning its purpose: “What and who are they going to reconcile?”
He argued that the party should focus on zoning its presidential ticket rather than wasting time on committees for reconciliation.
Wike stands out as the only strong and credible candidate from southern Nigeria capable of winning elections, particularly against President Bola Tinubu. Moreover, the PDP’s viability hinges on Wike’s involvement.
“Upon examining the current politicians in the PDP from the South, it’s clear that the governors are lacking in strength, as noted by Mr. Rotimi Amaechi. The PDP’s National Executive Committee is also ineffective, and the Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, is essentially inactive.
“There is no one else in the PDP with the financial resources, influence, and judicial connections to revitalize the party like Nyesom Wike. He embodies the essence of the party and serves as its savior and solution to its challenges.
“For someone whom President Tinubu cannot afford to overlook, the PDP should recognize the value of having Wike in their ranks and should do everything possible to encourage him to run for the 2027 presidential election, even if it means humbling themselves to seek his forgiveness,” stated Dr. Fred Fish. The Chairman emphasized that only Wike can truly assist the PDP.
