Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has clarified that his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not intended to undermine the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He expressed that the PDP is unlikely to make significant progress in the 2027 elections, which influenced his administration’s decision to align with the APC.
During a press briefing in Asaba, delivered by the state’s Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the governor emphasized that the primary goal of his administration is to foster the state’s development.
Oborevwori, along with former PDP running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and several party leaders in the state, has joined the APC. He reiterated that the purpose of this political shift is to propel Delta State forward.
“Our aim is not to destroy the PDP but to advance Delta’s progress, which is why we have altered our approach,” he stated.
“It’s clear that the PDP is unlikely to succeed in the upcoming 2027 election, which is why I decided to switch to the APC,” he stated.
Regarding his administration’s performance, he remarked, “In nearly two years, Governor Oborevwori and his team have achieved significant and impressive milestones. We have improved roads in various communities, cutting travel time from Asaba to Ughelli to just one hour and forty-five minutes.”
He dismissed critics’ concerns about the government’s ability to perform, asserting, “Anyone who claims that the administration is losing its grip is mistaken. We remain dedicated to delivering results.”
