Aregbe Urges Youth to Tap into Cultural Heritage for Economic Empowerment
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, has encouraged young entrepreneurs to harness the wealth of culture and creativity for economic empowerment and sustainable development.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of the African Hair Summit, held on Friday and organised by students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Aregbe stressed the importance of strategic thinking, innovation, and branding in building successful businesses.
"Entrepreneurship is not just about access to capital," he said. "It begins with setting up the right structures, building networks, and developing a strong brand that resonates with people.”
Addressing an audience made up of students, creatives, and aspiring entrepreneurs, Aregbe described the event as “a profound moment to engage with young minds shaping the future,” and urged participants to deepen their knowledge and seek relevant information about their chosen ventures.
He underscored the potential of the cultural and creative industries in generating wealth, creating jobs, and preserving identity, while noting that strategy and knowledge are key to unlocking such opportunities.
Reaffirming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Aregbe said Lagos continues to provide fertile ground for innovation and growth, describing the state as “a city of bold dreams, inspiring stories, and shared success.”
He encouraged participants to remain resilient, focus on value creation, and take full advantage of the platforms being created by the government to support their ambitions.
The summit, which celebrated African hair and identity, served as a creative platform for dialogue on culture, enterprise, and innovation.
