Efforts by opposition leaders to forge a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections are gaining momentum, with a new political platform expected to be unveiled before the end of June.
According to credible sources, the coalition—led by notable political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi—is nearing final decisions on the structure and name of the proposed platform.
This revelation came during a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina, where former Katsina State SSG and APC gubernatorial candidate, Mustapha Inuwa, briefed supporters on ongoing discussions.
“We need a reliable, trusted platform to defeat this government. By God’s grace, the leadership will reach a final decision before the end of this month,” Inuwa said.
He stressed that the coalition is being formed not out of political ambition, but in the broader interest of national development, adding that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu has failed to provide the leadership Nigeria desperately needs.
“Nigeria has lost its voice on the continent. Even as the so-called giant of Africa, our influence is declining,” Inuwa lamented.
Inuwa was critical of the internal dynamics of both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing both of stifling internal democracy.
He cited the recent local government elections in Katsina State as an example, alleging that only government-backed candidates were allowed to contest.
“What happened in APC is no different from PDP. The same manipulation and lack of internal democracy persist. Even local elections are stage-managed,” he said.
He also criticised recent defections to the APC, describing them as ill-informed.
“Those who left to join APC have merely moved from the frying pan into the fire,” Inuwa declared.
He called on Nigerians to support the proposed coalition and offer prayers for its success, assuring that the political movement will offer a credible alternative to the APC in 2027.
