Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has signed six new bills into law during a special plenary session held on Wednesday to mark the second anniversary of the 7th Ekiti State House of Assembly.
Governor Oyebanji praised the Assembly for its pivotal role in driving the state’s developmental strides, describing the lawmakers as committed partners in the progress of Ekiti State.
The newly signed laws are designed to strengthen healthcare delivery, promote local participation in economic activities, and support sustainable growth. The six laws include: the Ekiti State Quality of Healthcare Bill, 2025; Ekiti State Water Resources, Sanitation and Hygiene Sector Law, 2025; Ekiti State Local Content (2nd Amendment) Law, 2025; Ekiti State Statistical (First Amendment) Law, 2025;Ekiti State Senior Secondary School Board Law, 2025; and Ekiti State House of Assembly Service Commission Pension and Loans Board (First Amendment) Law, 2025.
The event, held at the Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, attracted an audience of senior government officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders from across the state.
In a show of confidence in the Governor’s leadership, members of the House unanimously passed a vote of confidence and publicly endorsed the extension of his social contract with the people until 2030.
Speaking at the open plenary, Governor Oyebanji underlined the importance of each newly enacted law. He noted that the laws are intended to improve data management for planning, enhance educational governance and staff welfare, promote local content in procurement, and improve water, sanitation, and healthcare delivery across the state.
Commending the lawmakers for their consistent cooperation and dedication, the Governor described their relationship with the executive arm as a model of effective governance, stating that their shared vision has been crucial in executing his administration’s policies and programmes.
“I want to thank members of the House of Assembly for being both responsible and responsive,” Oyebanji said.
“Your dedication to the development of Ekiti State speaks volumes. With these new bills now enacted, we have reached a total of 30 bills signed in just two years. No previous Assembly has achieved this, and it reflects your resilience, your commitment, and your desire to deliver meaningful outcomes for your constituents.”
He continued, “I am deeply grateful for the unity of purpose that exists between the legislative and executive arms. Thank you for aligning yourselves with the party’s vision and for your patience and partnership on this journey.”
Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to maintain a strong, respectful and collaborative relationship with the Assembly.
He reiterated that the shared objective of transforming Ekiti into a beacon of good governance will remain the cornerstone of their joint efforts.
In his welcome address, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, expressed his appreciation to the Governor for his steadfast support and constructive engagement with the legislature.
He credited the synergy between the two arms of government for many of the Assembly’s accomplishments under the current leadership.
He noted that this partnership had contributed to national recognition for the Assembly, particularly in the area of integrating information and communication technology into governance.
Reflecting on the Assembly’s achievements over the past two years, Aribasoye outlined the passage of 24 bills and 63 resolutions on diverse issues including youth unemployment and environmental protection. He stressed that these legislative milestones underscore the Assembly’s commitment to socio-economic development and public accountability.
“Our focus has been on enacting laws that will meaningfully impact the lives of Ekiti residents,” the Speaker said. “From educational reform and data-driven planning to staff welfare and healthcare improvements, we are laying the legislative foundation for a prosperous future.”
Also in attendance at the special plenary were Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro; Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Folakemi Olomojobi; Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo; Acting Chief Judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye; members of the House of Assembly; State Executive Council members; and representatives from communities across the state.
