The governor made the disclosure on Monday during the inauguration of eight newly constructed duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba. Addressing members of his cabinet, Oborevwori made it clear that performance, visibility, and initiative, not sycophancy, will determine who stays in office.
“As a commissioner, we don’t see you. You talk, carry your memo, and look for the Governor, because the Governor will not come looking for you. There are others who are seeking me out; you have to bring energy and initiative into your ministry.”
Oborevwori charged the public to hold each commissioner responsible for the performance of their respective ministries.
“If there is a problem in any ministry, hold the commissioner responsible. Any ministry that is doing very well shows that the commissioner is doing very well,” he declared.
Reacting to widespread rumours about a possible dissolution of the cabinet, the governor dismissed the claims, describing them as baseless.
“You know there are a lot of rumours saying the Governor wants to dissolve the Exco. These people haven’t even heard from me; this just shows that people like too much talk,” he said.
To bridge the accommodation deficit for Commissioners in their Quarters, today the Asagba of Asaba Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN) inaugurated eight units of four-bedroom duplexes with attached Boys' Quarters in the Commissioners' Quarters, Asaba.
The commissioning of these eight units of four-bedroom duplexes and attached Boys' Quarters brings the total to thirty, as opposed to the twenty-two encountered when the governor assumed office.
At the ceremony, Sheriff Oborevwori also debunked a false rumour about the dissolution of the State Executive Council, insisting that only non-performing Commissioners could be replaced, rather than a complete dissolution of the entire Executive Council.
