#IGP Commends Nigerian Police Officers for Exceptional Service in Somalia
…As AUSSOM Hails Their Professionalism, Dedication and Operational Excellence
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has lauded the exceptional performance of officers from the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), describing them as outstanding ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force.
The officers, who served in Somalia from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025, were recently redeployed to key administrative and command roles within the AUSSOM Police and Mission Headquarters (PHQ/MHQ) in Mogadishu. Their redeployment followed an internal reshuffling aimed at boosting operational efficiency during a critical phase of security reconfiguration and strategic transition in the mission area.
Despite being primarily trained as Formed Police Unit personnel, the Nigerian officers demonstrated remarkable adaptability by seamlessly transitioning into the roles of Individual Police Officers (IPOs) with minimal orientation. Their intelligence, discipline, and swift mastery of administrative and operational duties were recognized by AUSSOM leadership as pivotal to the smooth functioning of mission operations.
In a letter dated June 12, 2025, addressed to the IGP, the AUSSOM Police Commissioner praised the Nigerian contingent for their professionalism, resilience, and contribution to sustaining continuity at the Mission Headquarters.
Fifteen officers were redeployed to the new assignments, including CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard, among others.
In response, IGP Egbetokun expressed deep pride in their conduct and achievements, urging them to remain committed to the core values of the Force—discipline, professionalism, and excellence in service delivery. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering support for international peacekeeping missions and its continued collaboration with global stakeholders in promoting peace, security, and stability.
The IGP’s commendation reinforces Nigeria’s position as a dependable contributor to international peace efforts and highlights the professionalism of its law enforcement officers in global missions.
