..Says he won’t be discouraged by naysayers
Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Mr Oriyomi Hamzat, has declared his intention to run for the Oyo State governorship seat in 2027, saying he is confident of victory despite public doubts.
Mr Hamzat made the bold declaration during a live radio broadcast while responding to a phone-in caller from the diaspora who warned him against entering the race.
“Don’t listen to those who are saying Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat. They are only lying. Even your station’s polling unit will fail if politicians bring money,” the caller warned.
He acknowledged Hamzat’s humanitarian service but insisted that voters might not reward him at the ballot.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Hamzat dismissed the warnings and expressed confidence in his political strength and connection with the people.
He said the era of underestimating the people’s resolve is over.
According to him, “If I contest, nothing will happen. I will contest, and I will win. Don’t tell me that.
You are telling me I won’t win — what is the meaning of that? Do you know the minds of those people that will vote?”
Mr Hamzat is widely known for his social justice campaigns and massive grassroots following across Oyo State, though he has never held political office.
