The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended ongoing renovation work at its temporary Iyana-Ipaja Orientation Camp in Lagos to prevent any disruption to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation programme.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the Lagos NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Christina Salmwang, explained that the move was aimed at maintaining an uninterrupted and well-organised three-week exercise, which officially commenced on 13 June.
“The suspension is to prevent any disruptions or hitches and to ensure a seamless orientation process for corps members throughout the period,” she said.
Mrs Salmwang revealed that a total of 7,086 corps members have been registered and accommodated at the camp, including 2,891 males and 4,195 females. The figure also includes corps members temporarily posted to Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, and Osun States due to capacity limitations at the Lagos camp.
She expressed optimism that the NYSC’s permanent orientation site in Agbowa, Ikorodu, would soon be completed, allowing the scheme to host all corps members posted to Lagos within a single facility.
The renovation works at the Iyana-Ipaja site were initiated under the directive of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of temporary infrastructure while construction progresses at the Agbowa permanent site.
Mrs Salmwang commended the Lagos State Government for its ongoing support to the scheme, describing it as both consistent and meaningful.
“The Lagos State Government’s backing of the NYSC has been steady and impactful. It reflects the administration’s commitment to the development and empowerment of young Nigerians,” she said.
