Nigerian dancer and creative talent Oluwatosin Solaru, known professionally as Noohra, has crossed the 120-hour mark in her extraordinary attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Dance Marathon by an Individual.
The marathon, which began on Saturday, 22 June 2025, at Royal Roots Mall, Nile Cinema, Ikota Primary School, Lagos, is now well on course to reach an unprecedented 150 hours. Noohra has already surpassed the previous benchmark of 126 hours, held by Bandana Nepal of Nepal since 2018, and is pushing toward the finish line of a physically and emotionally demanding journey.
Officially sanctioned by Guinness World Records, the challenge is being conducted under rigorous conditions, with oversight from medical personnel, timekeepers, and compliance officials to ensure full adherence to global standards.
Now entering its sixth consecutive day, the event has evolved into a vibrant cultural gathering, celebrating endurance, creativity, and Nigerian excellence. Crowds continue to visit the venue, energised by local performances, community activities, and spontaneous outbursts of support that reflect the festive spirit.
Speaking mid-marathon, Noohra reaffirmed her motivation: “This challenge is about more than dance. It’s a call to dream boldly, work relentlessly, and show the world the strength and spirit of Nigerian youth. Dance is my language, and I’m telling a story of endurance, purpose, and unwavering faith.”
Her trainer, Joshua Oriola, expressed his pride as the 120-hour threshold was crossed: “Finally! We’ve hit the 120-hour mark, but we’re not done! 150 hours is the goal!”
He went on to applaud her resilience: “She came into this fully prepared, mentally and physically. Watching her overcome fatigue, pain, and doubt has been humbling. She’s not just dancing, she’s etching her name into history, one step at a time.”
Recall that a minor technical issue occurred earlier when the official digital timer briefly froze at 96 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. However, the situation was managed transparently, the exact timestamp was visibly recorded, and the timer was restarted promptly from zero.
Most critically, a dedicated camera has been filming the entire marathon continuously, as required by Guinness World Records. This uninterrupted footage will be submitted as part of the official verification process.
The event continues to draw significant public interest, with local artists, branded merchandise, food vendors, and sponsors contributing to a carnival-like atmosphere. Organisers describe the moment as emblematic of what Nigerian youth can achieve through vision, dedication, and global ambition.
They have called on brands and members of the public to offer support in the final stretch. With fewer than 30 hours remaining, anticipation is building across the country.
