Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructural achievements and governance reforms have effectively dismantled any viable opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, during the inauguration of the Arterial Road N16 to N20 in the Katampe District, Wike praised Tinubu for restoring trust in government and accelerating development. He said the President’s consistent delivery has undermined political critics and rendered opposition efforts ineffective.
Wike, a leading figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the continuous unveiling of new infrastructure has left opposition coalitions without a political foothold.
“I thought there would be a coalition, but when people see new projects being unveiled daily, that idea collapses. The coalition has failed because of the good work Mr President is doing,” he said.
The Minister revealed that the newly inaugurated Arterial Road N16 to N20, stretching from Shehu Shagari Way to Wole Soyinka Way, began in October 2024 and was completed ahead of schedule due to renewed contractor confidence.
“President Tinubu has brought that trust back, and the people of the FCT, particularly those in satellite towns, are seeing progress like never before,” Wike added.
He noted that despite the extension being recently approved, the contractor had already delivered it—bolstered by confidence in the administration’s payment reliability.
Wike disclosed that affected communities received 200% of the statutory compensation, aligning with Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Responding at the event, President Tinubu commended Wike’s leadership and affirmed that infrastructure is critical to Nigeria’s future.
“Infrastructure is not a luxury; it is a necessity; it is the bedrock of national competitiveness, growth, social integration, and economic opportunity,” the president stated.
Support from FCT Leadership
FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, expressed gratitude to residents for enduring construction disruptions and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
“To the people of Gishiri, Maitama, and the entire FCT community, thank you for your resilience and belief in the government’s capacity to deliver,” she said.
In the same vein, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr Richard Dauda, described the project as a 3.7-kilometre, six-lane dual carriageway linking Phase I and Phase II districts in the FCT.
