The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has paid a condolence visit to the Niger State Government following the devastating flood disaster that struck Mokwa Local Government Area last Thursday.
Obi, who was received at the Government House, Minna, by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of Niger State over the tragedy, which reportedly claimed about 153 lives and displaced several residents.
During the visit on Monday, Obi donated ₦20 million to support the affected families and victims of the flood. He also pledged to personally visit Mokwa soon to meet with survivors.
He said, “I will personally visit Mokwa to condole with the families of the victims, as well as meet one-on-one with survivors in this moment of grief.”
Obi also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who received the donation on behalf of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, expressed gratitude to Peter Obi for his gesture of compassion and solidarity with the people of Niger State.
According to him, “We thank Mr. Peter Obi for his support to the distressed victims of Mokwa and for his show of kindness and love for humanity, especially in times of natural disaster.”
The Deputy Governor commended Obi’s humanitarian spirit and urged other public figures to emulate such leadership in times of crisis.
