The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), following its 169th plenary session held on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, the elevation includes 56 advocates and one academic, Professor Chima Josephat Ubanyionwu, who was selected under the academic category. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, presided over the session.
The LPPC noted that the new SANs were chosen in recognition of their professional excellence, either through courtroom advocacy or academic contributions to the legal field. It also revealed that three petitions filed against some applicants were reviewed and dismissed for lacking merit.
In line with the rules governing the SAN conferment process, all successful candidates are required to undergo a mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme. The Committee strongly warned against the publication of congratulatory messages or advertisements, stating that any breach of this rule may attract disciplinary sanctions.
The swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 batch of Senior Advocates is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 29, 2025.
