Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday formally inaugurated Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the sixth substantive Chief Judge of the state, with a charge to uphold justice with courage, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Justice Ogunmoye had been serving in an acting capacity since November 5, 2024, following the passing of his predecessor, Hon. Justice Oyewole Adeyeye. His appointment was confirmed by the Ekiti State House of Assembly on July 3, 2025, based on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Committee.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji reiterated his administration’s commitment to the independence of the judiciary and pledged continued support for judicial reforms, infrastructure development, and efficient service delivery.
Describing the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, the Governor stated:
“Your Lordship, history will not judge you by the applause of today, but by the legacy you leave behind. In this office, courage and integrity must be your constant allies. Let it be remembered that under your leadership, Ekiti State’s judiciary reached new heights, ensuring justice for all, regardless of status, gender or circumstance.”
Oyebanji reaffirmed that the judiciary must be guided not by sentiment, fear, or favour, but strictly by the Constitution and the rule of law.
“The role of Chief Judge is not just a title; it is a sacred responsibility. As the most conservative and apolitical arm of government, the judiciary must be led by individuals of unquestionable integrity, sound legal expertise, and administrative competence,” he added.
The Governor also praised the longstanding reputation of Ekiti State’s judiciary for excellence and dignity, stressing the need to preserve and enhance that legacy by ensuring globally competitive standards in the administration of justice.
Earlier in his remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata (SAN), commended Governor Oyebanji for his consistent adherence to due process and respect for judicial independence. He explained that the appointment followed due legal procedure, in line with recommendations from the National Judicial Council and confirmation by the House of Assembly.
In his acceptance speech, Justice Ogunmoye expressed gratitude to the Governor for the confidence reposed in him. He acknowledged the administration’s commitment to judicial growth and pledged to justify the trust placed in him by the government and people of Ekiti State.
Outlining his vision for the judiciary, Justice Ogunmoye promised to prioritise digital transformation to enhance speed and efficiency in judicial processes. He noted that technology would be leveraged to modernise court procedures, ensure wider access to justice, and foster greater transparency and accountability across the judicial system.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the President of the Ekiti State Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Monisade Abodunde; Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Folakemi Olomojobi; members of the State House of Assembly and Executive Council; traditional rulers, including the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe; and legal practitioners from across the state.
