Justice Ibrahim Kala of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of a TikToker, Saheed Osama, and one Uyime Udoekwere in the custody of the Ikoyi Correctional Centre over alleged cyber libel against Mrs. Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The two defendants were arraigned by the police on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, cyberstalking, and character assassination. They were brought before the court by the ‘Delta Attack’ team of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.
According to the police prosecutor, Anthony Iyeye, the offences were allegedly committed between July 4 and 5, 2025, when the defendants, along with others still at large, used digital platforms to spread false and defamatory claims against Mrs. Omowunmi. He told the court that they circulated damaging messages and staged a public protest carrying placards that read, “Wunmi Killed Mohbad! Period! E No Go Better For Wunmi.”
Iyeye stated that the acts were in violation of Sections 27(1)(b)(2) and 24(1)(a)(b)(2) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. Despite the gravity of the accusations, both defendants pleaded not guilty.
Following the plea, the prosecutor urged the court to set a trial date and requested their remand in custody until the case is determined.
Defence counsel, Ademola Olabiyi, made an oral application for bail, citing the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015. She explained that the charges were only served on her at the point of arraignment, leaving her no opportunity to prepare a formal bail application.
Justice Kala, however, declined to entertain the oral plea and advised the defence to file a written application. With the court already on its annual vacation, he also directed the lawyer to approach vacation judges for an expedited bail hearing once the application is filed.
The matter was adjourned to September 25, 2025, for trial.
