Lagos Commissioner Explores Partnership Opportunities During BBC Studios Visit in London
LONDON, UK — In a move aimed at fostering international collaborations and spotlighting Lagos State on the global stage, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, recently embarked on a strategic working visit to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Studios in London.
The visit, which spanned two days, was held in anticipation of a potential partnership between the BBC and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The collaboration seeks to enhance the global visibility of Lagos’ vibrant tourism, cultural heritage, and creative industries.
As part of the engagement, the Commissioner attended the prestigious Wimbledon Tennis Tournament, one of the world’s most iconic sports tourism events. Her presence at the tournament highlighted the significance of leveraging major international events to promote tourism and cultural exchange.
The visit continued with an extensive tour of the BBC's Central London facility, where Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka explored the broadcasting corporation’s production capabilities and discussed avenues for storytelling, cultural promotion, and capacity-building initiatives that could benefit Lagos’ growing creative sector.
According to the Commissioner, the visit aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritizes tourism and creative economy development as critical pillars for job creation and economic diversification.
She expressed optimism that the dialogue with the BBC would open doors to impactful collaborations that would not only project Lagos to a global audience but also deepen the skills and opportunities available to local talents in the state.
“This visit is part of our larger mission to tell Lagos' unique stories through world-class platforms and strategic partnerships. We believe that with the right collaborations, Lagos can become a premier cultural and tourism destination,” she said.
