Abuja, July 6, 2025 – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has debunked a fraudulent press release currently making the rounds on social media and messaging platforms, falsely claiming that a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for recruitment has been scheduled for July 2025.
In an official statement issued by the Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the Service categorically distanced itself from the fake announcement, describing it as “fraudulent, misleading, and not originating from the Nigeria Customs Service.”
“At no point did the Nigeria Customs Service issue any announcement regarding a CBT scheduled for July 2025. The so-called shortlist and associated notice are entirely fabricated,” Maiwada said.
The Service also noted that a careful review of the fake document reveals clear inconsistencies. According to Maiwada, the e-signature format differs from the Service’s official standard, and the timeline presented in the release is inconsistent with the current recruitment process.
Public Urged to Rely on Official Channels
The NCS acknowledged the high level of interest in its ongoing recruitment and urged Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming or sharing unverified information online. The public is advised to rely solely on the Service’s official website, verified social media handles, and recognised national newspapers for authentic updates.
“We understand the hopes and aspirations of many Nigerians regarding the recruitment exercise, but we strongly warn against engaging with or disseminating unverified content,” the Customs spokesperson added.
Crackdown on Misinformation Underway
The Nigeria Customs Service further disclosed that investigations are underway to trace the origin of the misleading announcement. It also assured the public that appropriate action will be taken against individuals or groups found culpable.
Maiwada reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to transparency and integrity, particularly in recruitment matters.
“We appreciate the vigilance of Nigerians who raised concerns about this fake release. The NCS remains committed to conducting all recruitment activities in line with due process, fairness, and openness,” he emphasized.

The Service assured that when it is ready to move to the next phase of the recruitment process, it will issue official communication through appropriate and trustworthy channels.
