The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disowned former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, insisting he is not a member of the party and has no mandate to speak on its behalf.
The party’s North-West Zonal Secretary, Inuwa Idris, made this known during a press briefing in Kaduna on Friday. He said El-Rufai has been making unauthorised public appearances at policy forums and strategy meetings, falsely presenting himself as a party representative.
“Malam El-Rufai is not authorised, mandated, or recognised by the SDP in any capacity. His actions were taken without the consent or knowledge of the party’s national leadership,” Idris stated.
He affirmed that El-Rufai’s name does not appear in the party’s membership records, and that he has never participated in any of its programmes or held any appointment.
The party reaffirmed the leadership of Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar, National Secretary, Chief Olu Agunloye, and its 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo.
Idris also warned political stakeholders and the general public to disregard any statements or activities linked to El-Rufai under the SDP banner.
In a related development, the SDP passed a vote of no confidence on El-Rufai and called for the suspension of Dr. Umar Ardo, accusing him of promoting a new political group under the guise of SDP affiliation.
The party warned that it would take further action, including launching a special committee to expose ongoing impersonations and internal sabotage.
