Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Wale Egbedun, has affirmed that all 25 legislators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remain steadfast and will turn down any financial inducements from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) aimed at prompting their defection.
Egbedun made this known while responding to speculation about possible defections of PDP members to the APC.
The statement comes as the PDP in Osun grapples with a wave of defections, including two senators and two members of the House of Representatives, which has shifted the political climate of the state.
Addressing journalists, Egbedun insisted that no amount of money from the APC would persuade any of the Assembly’s 25 PDP lawmakers to abandon the party. He confirmed that all members have passed a vote of confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing their loyalty to his administration.
According to him, “The 25 Honourable Members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party are united, loyal and fully committed to the government of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and to the party that brought us here, which is the PDP.
“There is no division in this House. There is no defection. There is no crisis. The rumours flying around are simply rumours, and we are not in the business of chasing shadows.
“We the Honourable Members are men of honour. We are not for sale. We are not moved by noise or pressure. We hold the mandate of our people and we intend to keep that trust with dignity, loyalty and a clear conscience.
“We come from the grassroots. We see and feel the pulse of the people every day. And let me say it without hesitation, the people of Osun are with this Governor. They have seen what he is doing. They have felt the impact of his leadership. They know he is working and so do we,” he added.
Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, representing Obokun State Constituency, noted that federal lawmakers from the district who recently defected had their reasons, but stressed that all nine state lawmakers from the area remain committed to the PDP and Governor Adeleke.
Also speaking, Fatunmise Olumide of Ife-East State Constituency reaffirmed that the Assembly’s resolution was aimed at securing Governor Adeleke’s re-election in 2026.
“We are not just passing a vote of confidence on the governor; we are assuring the public of our commitment to ensuring his re-election, irrespective of the decisions taken by federal lawmakers from our constituencies,” Olumide said.
