During Saturday’s by-election in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, polling agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were reportedly absent in multiple polling units. Observers noted that at locations including Oluku, Owina, and Eronseyi Primary Schools, only agents from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were present to monitor voting.
Reacting to the reports, Mr. Tony Azeigbemi, Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in the state, dismissed claims of absence, asserting that the party had duly deployed agents across the constituencies. He further drew parallels with the 2023 elections, noting that “Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, didn’t have agents in most polling units, yet still secured victories in those areas.”
The by-election proceeded under close observation, with voters participating in the process despite the reported gaps in agent representation.
