Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure that every ongoing project is completed before his tenure ends in February 2028.
Addressing the 169th meeting of the State Executive Council on Wednesday at Government House, Yenagoa, Diri said both landmark projects initiated under his watch and those inherited from previous administrations would be brought to completion.
Key undertakings on the state’s priority list include the Sagbama–Ekeremor road, already completed under his administration with work now extending to Agge; the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie road; and the first phase of the Nembe–Brass road. Other flagship projects are the nine-storey civil servants’ secretariat, the 25,000-capacity stadium, a 60-megawatt gas turbine plant, and several other infrastructure developments.
The governor gave assurances that financing would not stall progress, adding that his government remained committed to making the headquarters of all eight local government areas in Bayelsa accessible by road.
Providing updates, Diri disclosed that sand-filling was ongoing on the Bayelsa West senatorial road between Ekeremor and Agge, handled by the China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC). He noted that the Bayelsa Central road to Oporoma and the Nembe–Brass road in the eastern senatorial district were also approaching completion.
According to him, the Federal Government, which took over the second phase of the Nembe–Brass road, has already released 30 per cent of the contract sum.
On power supply, Diri stated that newly procured gas turbines would make 24-hour electricity in the state a reality before the end of the year.
“Contractors handling some of these projects were inherited by this government and are well known to the public. All ongoing projects will be delivered, and our objective is to achieve this before we leave office.
“With the completion of the Sagbama–Ekeremor road we inherited, we are confident it will improve lives significantly by reducing travel time and enhancing security.
“Power is vital to industrialisation. It has been a core agenda since my first term. We are now close to achieving our target, with preparations at an advanced stage. The new gas turbines will soon arrive, and my focus remains on resolving electricity challenges so Bayelsa will have its own independent power plant,” he said.
