Ofoni Commissions Uvwie Security Surveillance, Assures Residents of Enhanced Security
UVWIE, DELTA STATE — Friday, September 18, 2026:
The Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni (JP), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and protecting the lives and property of residents with the commissioning of the Uvwie Security Surveillance (USS).
Chief Ofoni attended the passing-out ceremony and official commissioning of the first batch of the Uvwie Security Surveillance personnel, describing the initiative as a significant step towards enhancing security surveillance, intelligence gathering and community policing across Uvwie Local Government Area.
The establishment of the USS followed the council chairman’s commitment to sustaining peace and security in Uvwie, in line with the security objectives of the Delta State Government under the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Chief Ofoni expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the training and commencement of operations by the security personnel.
He explained that the initiative was designed to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies by strengthening community-based surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The council chairman charged the newly trained personnel to conduct themselves professionally and responsibly in the discharge of their duties.
He specifically cautioned them against using their positions to oppress, intimidate or harass members of the public, stressing the need for respect, discipline and commitment to the protection of lives and property.
Chief Ofoni urged the personnel to work closely with the Police and other recognised security agencies while maintaining the confidence and trust of residents across the local government.
Representing the Commander of the Effurun Area Command, ACP Aliyu Shaba, CSP Otobore Godday disclosed that the first batch of USS personnel underwent rigorous training involving physical exercises, weapon handling and academic activities.
According to him, the personnel undertook about 44 courses during their training and had been certified fit to contribute to peace and security efforts in Uvwie Local Government Area.
He therefore appealed to residents to recognise and cooperate with the security personnel as they carry out their responsibilities.
Also present at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, commended Chief Ofoni for what he described as a significant initiative aimed at supporting the Nigeria Police Force and strengthening security in Uvwie.
Chief Ighrakpata also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for sustaining peace and security across Delta State, noting that the USS initiative would complement existing security efforts in Uvwie.
Representing the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Sideso, JP, OON, Abe I, the Unuevworo of Uvwie Kingdom, High Chief Hope Akasa, expressed satisfaction with the council chairman’s efforts to enhance security in the area.
The Unuevworo of Etche r'Ohore, Chief Dr. Samuel Jimoh Eshenake, also emphasised the collective responsibility of residents in maintaining security.
He encouraged members of the public to provide useful and timely information to security personnel and other relevant agencies to assist them in preventing and combating crime.
Speaking on behalf of the newly recruited personnel, the class captain assured the gathering of their readiness to collaborate with the Police and other security agencies in combating crime and maintaining peace across Uvwie.
As part of measures to strengthen the operational capacity of the USS, Chief Ofoni had earlier provided four Toyota Sienna vehicles to facilitate surveillance operations and enable the personnel to access communities and areas across the local government with greater ease.
The Uvwie Security Surveillance was established as part of efforts to strengthen community policing, improve grassroots security coordination and complement the work of established security agencies.
The formal commissioning marked the commencement of the outfit's operational activities and represented another step by the Uvwie Local Government Council towards strengthening security surveillance and reassuring residents of greater protection for their lives and property.
