Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration will approach the 2027 general elections with its record of performance, rather than propaganda or political mudslinging.
Aniagwu, who spoke during an interview on News Central Television on Saturday, said the administration’s achievements across infrastructure, education, healthcare, empowerment and other sectors constituted its “report card” before the people.
He said those unable to engage the administration on the strength of its performance were resorting to narratives aimed at distracting the public from the issues of development.
According to him, “when you cannot engage the governor on the strength of his performance and you cannot tell stories that are contrary to facts on ground, you want to look for other stories to tell that could possibly make you begin to have certain level of sympathy. Those theories can only come from the point of propaganda.”
Aniagwu said the proper basis for assessing the Oborevwori administration was the Governor’s four-point M.O.R.E Agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
He said the administration had recorded visible interventions across the state, particularly in road infrastructure, adding that rural and riverine communities previously constrained by poor connectivity were being linked through road and bridge projects.
“In Delta today, tell us your local government and we will tell you what Oborevwori has done,” he said, stressing that the administration’s development drive covered urban, rural, riverine and agrarian communities across the three senatorial districts.
The commissioner also cited interventions in education, saying the government had directed relevant ministries to identify schools requiring urgent attention in order to improve teaching and learning conditions.
He said such projects would also stimulate local economic activity because contractors and other service providers engaged in executing government projects would inject resources into communities.
Aniagwu further highlighted the administration’s empowerment programmes, including the engagement of local councillors in grassroots interventions designed to support residents across the state.
He said the interventions reflected the administration’s intention to ensure that the impact of government policies at the macro level translated into tangible benefits at the grassroots.
On healthcare, the commissioner said the administration was not merely concentrating on the construction or renovation of hospital buildings, but was also investing in medical equipment and personnel needed to make the facilities functional.
He also pointed to the state’s higher education system, noting that Delta had four state-owned universities, alongside other tertiary institutions, which he said had continued to function despite challenges previously affecting higher education nationally.
On the 2027 elections, Aniagwu said the Governor’s political objective was clear, stressing that the administration would support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“When we leave election and we are talking about development, we will have other major goals,” he said, distinguishing the administration’s political objectives from its broader responsibility of delivering development to Deltans.
The commissioner, however, stressed that political competition must not be allowed to threaten the peace required for development, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
His comments came against the backdrop of the reported clash involving supporters of the APC and the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The state government has directed security agencies to investigate the incident and establish those responsible.
Aniagwu said government would not tolerate intimidation, violence or any action capable of undermining the peace of the state, regardless of the political party involved.
“Whether you belong to our party, the APC, or you belong to any other political party, the government has made it very clear that there is no room for disturbance, there is no room for any form of intimidation,” he said.
He maintained that every political party and candidate should be allowed to campaign freely, provided such activities were conducted peacefully and within the law.
According to him, political differences should not be allowed to destroy the peace and stability required for the continued development of Delta State.
The commissioner said the Oborevwori administration understood that development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, adding that anyone whose actions threatened the state’s peace would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Aniagwu’s emphasis on performance as the basis of the administration’s 2027 campaign echoes his earlier statement that Governor Oborevwori’s campaign would be evidence-based and centred on demonstrable achievements under the M.O.R.E Agenda.
