The Kaduna State House of Assembly has moved forward with a series of legislative measures designed to bolster institutional efficiency and lay the groundwork for long-term development across key sectors of the state.
During Thursday’s plenary, Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman stated that the proceedings reflected the lawmakers’ determination to advance progressive policies and reinforce legal frameworks that support inclusive governance.
A major item on the agenda was the first reading of the Bill to Establish the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Fund, 2025. The proposed law aims to provide a sustainable financial structure for supporting agricultural programmes and initiatives throughout the state.
Lawmakers also gave initial consideration to the Bill to Establish the Kaduna State Commission for Religious Affairs, 2025. The commission, once operational, is expected to foster interfaith dialogue and promote peaceful co-existence among diverse religious communities.
The Assembly screened and confirmed the nomination of Ahmed Maiyaki as a Commissioner and member of the Kaduna State Executive Council, following a recommendation from the Governor.
Another significant development was the second reading of the Bill to Establish the Kaduna State Tertiary Institutions Regulatory Agency and for Other Related Matters, 2025. The proposed law was committed to the relevant committee for further legislative review.
Meanwhile, the House adopted the recommendations presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Judiciary concerning amendments to the Kaduna State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2017. After thorough debate, the amendment bill was passed into law.
Lawmakers also approved the Bill to Establish the Kaduna State Tourism, Museum, Landscape, and Recreational Services Board, 2024, following a report by the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Business, Innovation and Technology, and Judiciary.
Speaker Liman described the sitting as a landmark moment in the legislative calendar and restated the Assembly’s commitment to building the legal structures required for efficient governance and social progress across Kaduna State.
