LASTMA GM Urges Strict Compliance as Lagos Begins Second Phase of Ogudu–Ifako Bridge Rehabilitation

Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area, beginning Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and expected to last until Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The project, which follows the successful completion of the first phase, will focus on the restoration of the bridge’s expansion joints inbound Lagos Island.

General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said on Sunday that the state had designed a traffic management plan to reduce disruption and ease movement across the affected corridors.

He explained that vehicles approaching from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate axis inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island would face a controlled diversion at the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane about 50 metres before the construction zone, with normal access restored shortly after the work area.

Mr. Bakare-Oki highlighted alternative routes for motorists:

  • To Oshodi: Use Ojota Slip Road linking Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park).
  • To Victoria Island: Divert via Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Town Planning Way), then connect through Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge. Alternatively, use Ikorodu Road inbound Funsho Williams Avenue for direct access to Eko Bridge.
  • From Ikeja and environs: Connect through Maryland to Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, then proceed via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. Another option is Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park) leading to Oshodi.

The LASTMA boss assured that officers had been strategically deployed along the corridors to enforce lane discipline, ensure free flow of traffic, and respond quickly to emergencies. Towing trucks and other equipment have also been stationed to clear breakdowns or accidents.

While appealing for public cooperation, Bakare-Oki urged motorists to obey traffic advisories and directives from LASTMA officials. He warned that offenders—including those driving against traffic—would be prosecuted immediately before the Lagos State Mobile Court.

“Motorists are enjoined to exercise patience and comply fully with traffic laws. This temporary inconvenience is necessary for the delivery of lasting infrastructure that will benefit all Lagosians,” he said.

He further encouraged residents to report emergencies or incidents through LASTMA’s hotline: 080000527862.

The LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, noted that the commendable compliance by motorists during the first phase was crucial to its success, and called for the same level of discipline as the second phase begins.
