Ademola Lookman has set tongues wagging after deleting all traces of Atalanta from his social media accounts, intensifying speculation over a potential move to Inter Milan.
The Super Eagles star, who played a vital role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season, is reportedly unsettled and seeking a transfer away from the Serie A side. Although he still has two years left on his current deal, Lookman is believed to be pushing for a fresh challenge with a club competing in the Champions League.
Italian journalist Nicolò Schira reported that Inter Milan recently submitted a €45 million offer for the Nigerian international, as the Nerazzurri look to bolster their attack under new manager Cristian Chivu. Atalanta, however, swiftly turned down the bid, insisting they will not part with their forward for less than €50 million in guaranteed fees.
Sources close to the negotiations say Lookman is eager to join Inter and has already agreed personal terms with the club. However, Inter have yet to return with an improved bid.
In what appears to be a calculated move, Lookman unfollowed Atalanta’s official Instagram account, removed all posts connected to his time at the club, and changed his profile pictures on both Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to solid black images. These social media changes, often employed by players agitating for transfers, have added further weight to reports of his dissatisfaction with Atalanta’s refusal to sanction a move.
Despite the growing uncertainty, Atalanta have made efforts to retain the 26-year-old. Reports indicate the club has tabled a contract extension that would keep him in Bergamo until 2029, offering a pay rise to €4.5 million annually. Lookman is said to have rejected the proposal.
Schira’s latest update confirms Lookman remains unmoved: “Ademola Lookman is not convinced to extend his contract with Atalanta and has not changed his plans: he would like to join Inter. If Inter increase their bid around €50M, Atalanta could give the green light to the sale. Up to Inter to decide if making a new bid or not.”
Interest in Lookman has also been registered from Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham, and Atletico Madrid, though none have made formal approaches.
The forward’s desire to join a club with greater European ambitions appears to be driving his push to leave. After a standout season on the continental stage, Lookman seems keen to take the next major step in his career.
Atalanta’s position remains firm for now, but the next few days could prove decisive, especially if Inter return with an offer that meets the €50 million valuation.
