The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has commenced the training of 126 newly recruited staff as part of efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the country.
The programme, conducted under the agency’s Leadership Development Academy (LDA), is designed to build a skilled and motivated workforce capable of driving Nigeria’s primary health agenda.
Speaking at the opening in Abuja, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina, urged the new officers to embrace continuous learning and self-development. He assured them that the agency would provide the tools and skills necessary to ensure effective service delivery.
“This programme is not just about training,” Aina said. “It is about preparing you to make an impact in Nigeria’s primary healthcare system.”
He explained that the recruitment aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on job creation and strengthening the health sector. According to him, the trainees are joining the agency at a pivotal moment when the government is committed to addressing long-standing challenges in the health system.
Aina further noted that the training is part of the agency’s transformation plan to ensure accountable implementation of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII). He highlighted that the LDA, established in 2019, has already trained four cohorts of staff and graduated 55 fellows, making it a long-term strategy to build leadership and management capacity.
He stressed that the success of the new recruits would depend on the effort they put into their roles and the values they uphold, urging them to seize the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s healthcare improvement.
