The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has applauded the Federal Government’s newly launched Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), describing it as a bold and innovative approach to driving economic growth at the grassroots.
In a statement issued in Abuja, TMSG Chairman Emeka Nwankpa and Secretary Dapo Okubanjo said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to directly engaging communities without disrupting intergovernmental responsibilities. They noted that the programme comes at a time when many Nigerians are questioning the impact of increased federal allocations on local development.
The RHWDP will target all 8,809 administrative wards across the 36 states, supporting at least 1,000 economically active individuals in smaller wards and 2,000 in larger ones, under a collaboration between the federal, state, and local governments. The group said the plan has the potential to generate jobs, boost food security, reduce poverty, and strengthen social protection for more than 8.8 million people nationwide.
TMSG stressed that while the initial number of beneficiaries may seem modest in a country of over 200 million people, it is a significant starting point that could have far-reaching effects. They also highlighted that funding would come from increased revenues to the Federation Account, alongside complementary state and federal initiatives.
The programme will be overseen by a National Steering Committee with representatives from all six geopolitical zones. TMSG expressed confidence that once implemented, the ward-based strategy will deliver a stronger federal presence in local communities, empower residents, and stimulate sustainable economic activity at the grassroots level.
