Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is set to embark on a pivotal working visit to Germany on Tuesday to strengthen ties with renowned construction firm Julius Berger. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during a press briefing in Asaba. The visit, described as a strategic mission, aims to deepen technical collaboration, enhance project delivery, and secure more favorable terms for infrastructure projects in Delta State.
Accompanying the Governor on this trip will be Commissioner Aniagwu and the Technical Assistant to the Governor. The delegation was joined at the press briefing by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Projects, and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika. Aniagwu emphasized that the visit is strictly business-oriented, with no room for leisure, as it aligns with the administration’s commitment to improving cost efficiency and project outcomes for the benefit of Delta State’s residents.
“His Excellency’s visit to Germany is aimed at fortifying our partnership with Julius Berger, a globally respected construction company,” Aniagwu stated. “Governor Oborevwori is known for his exceptional negotiation skills, and this trip will focus on securing better deals and concessions that will translate into tangible benefits for the people of Delta State.” The Commissioner underscored that the Governor’s proactive approach to engaging directly with key partners reflects his dedication to ensuring that infrastructure projects are executed with precision and fiscal responsibility.
The visit builds on Delta State’s history of successful international engagements. Aniagwu recalled a previous trip to China, which resulted in the award of significant contracts, including the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover on the Warri–Patani Expressway. These projects are part of the state’s broader agenda to transform its infrastructure landscape, improve connectivity, and drive economic growth. The collaboration with Julius Berger, a firm known for its expertise in delivering high-quality infrastructure, is expected to further elevate Delta State’s development trajectory.
In addition to the Germany visit, Aniagwu provided updates on other key initiatives of the Oborevwori administration. He revealed that the state’s 2026 budget, estimated at ₦1.5 trillion, is being carefully crafted to prioritize capital projects, social welfare, and infrastructure expansion. “Following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, ministries are currently refining their submissions before they are presented to the State Executive Council for final approval,” he explained. This budget is expected to sustain the state’s momentum in delivering transformative projects that address the needs of its citizens.
The Commissioner also highlighted the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance through upcoming empowerment programs. Set to commence next month, these initiatives will be rolled out across all 25 local government areas in Delta State. Aniagwu noted that Governor Oborevwori has directed that the programs be transparent and inclusive, ensuring that they benefit a wide cross-section of the population. Coordinated by key ministries and agencies, the empowerment schemes are designed to create sustainable livelihoods, boost productivity, and empower communities economically.
Further underscoring the state’s focus on infrastructure, Aniagwu announced that Delta State will soon hold groundbreaking ceremonies for several new projects worth billions of naira. Among these is the Otovwodo Junction Flyover, a critical component of the state’s efforts to enhance transportation networks and ease traffic congestion in key areas. “These projects reflect our unwavering commitment to sustaining the momentum of development,” Aniagwu said. “The Governor has made it clear that political timelines will not derail governance, and contractors have been directed to maintain steady progress on all ongoing projects.”
The administration’s proactive approach to infrastructure development is part of a broader vision to position Delta State as a hub of economic activity and opportunity. By prioritizing partnerships with reputable firms like Julius Berger and maintaining a focus on cost efficiency, the Oborevwori administration aims to deliver projects that meet international standards while addressing local needs. The upcoming visit to Germany is expected to yield agreements that will further enhance the state’s capacity to execute ambitious infrastructure projects, ensuring long-term benefits for its people.
Aniagwu also reassured residents that the government remains committed to transparency and accountability in all its endeavors. The empowerment programs, infrastructure projects, and international collaborations are all part of a cohesive strategy to improve the quality of life for Deltans. “Governor Oborevwori’s administration is focused on delivering results that are sustainable and impactful,” he said. “We are not just building roads and bridges; we are building a future where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.”
As Delta State prepares for the 2026 budget and the rollout of new projects, the Governor’s trip to Germany marks a significant step in advancing the state’s development agenda. By strengthening ties with global partners like Julius Berger, the administration is laying the groundwork for a more prosperous and connected Delta State. The outcomes of this visit are expected to have far-reaching implications, not only for infrastructure development but also for the state’s economic growth and social progress. With a clear focus on results-driven governance, Governor Oborevwori continues to demonstrate his commitment to transforming Delta State into a model of development and opportunity.
