Benin City, Edo State – December 3, 2025
In a dramatic turn of events that has captivated both political and entertainment circles in Nigeria, the Edo State House of Assembly has officially summoned Honourable Natasha Osawaru Irobosa, the lawmaker representing Egor Constituency and wife of legendary Afrobeat musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face (or Tuface) Idibia, to appear before its standing committee on Ethics and Privileges. The summons stems from allegations of gross misconduct that the House claims have brought the legislative body into disrepute.
The development was announced during Tuesday’s plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku. The Speaker did not mince words as he addressed the assembly, expressing deep concern over what he described as a prolonged negative spotlight on the House caused by Hon. Natasha’s recent actions abroad.
“Distinguished colleagues,” Speaker Agbebaku began, “of recent, this Honourable House – a House filled with cerebral, highly educated, and responsible members – has been dragged into the mud for far too long by one of our own, Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru. For the past one week, she has been, let me borrow the word, trending negatively across electronic media, print, and virtually all social media platforms. Major television stations such as TVC, Silverbird, Arise TV, Channels Television, and many others have carried the story extensively.”
The root of the controversy lies in widely circulated reports and viral videos alleging a public altercation between Hon. Natasha Osawaru and her husband, 2Face Idibia, during a trip to London, United Kingdom. According to multiple online sources and eyewitness accounts that flooded social media last week, the couple engaged in a heated domestic dispute in a public space, which reportedly escalated to the point that British law enforcement officers had to intervene. The singer was allegedly detained briefly by the Metropolitan Police before being released.
Although neither 2Face nor Hon. Natasha has issued an official statement confirming or denying the details of the incident, the footage and photographs that surfaced online quickly went viral across Nigeria and the diaspora. Hashtags such as #NatashaAnd2Face, #EdoAssemblyScandal, and #LondonDrama trended for several days on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok, with many Nigerians expressing shock that a sitting lawmaker could be involved in such a public spectacle.
Speaker Agbebaku, visibly displeased, used the occasion to defend the reputation of the Tenth Edo State House of Assembly. “We want the good people of Edo State and Nigerians at large to know that this is a decent, reputable, and highly respected House of Assembly,” he declared. “In fact, many objective observers consider the Edo State House of Assembly the best state legislature in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We have responsible, intelligent, and diligent members who know exactly what they are doing and why they were elected. The misconduct or attitude of one member cannot, should not, and will not be allowed to tarnish the hard-earned image of this august assembly.”
The Speaker further emphasised that the House would not sweep the matter under the carpet simply because the individual involved is a colleague. “Personal indiscretions that spill into the public domain and consequently ridicule the institution we all serve must be addressed firmly and transparently,” he stressed.
Consequently, the House resolved to refer Hon. Natasha Osawaru to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for thorough investigation. She has been given a strict timeline of one week to appear before the committee and defend herself against the charges of gross misconduct and bringing the House into disrepute. She is also required to show cause why disciplinary measures – which could range from a public reprimand to suspension or even stiffer sanctions provided for under the House Standing Rules – should not be taken against her.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, has in turn been mandated to conclude its probe and submit a comprehensive report, along with its recommendations, to the House within two weeks. Sources within the assembly say the panel is expected to invite relevant witnesses, review video evidence, and possibly request statements from London authorities if necessary.
The summons has sparked a flurry of reactions across the state and beyond. While some citizens have applauded the House for taking decisive action to protect its image, others have accused the leadership of overreacting and engaging in a public lynching of the lawmaker without first hearing her side of the story. Women’s rights groups in Edo State have also weighed in, cautioning that the matter appears to be a private marital issue that should not be politicised or used to unfairly target a female legislator.
As at the time of this report, Hon. Natasha Osawaru has neither appeared before the committee nor released any public statement addressing the allegations or the summons. Efforts to reach her media aides were unsuccessful.
The case has once again brought to the fore the delicate intersection of celebrity marriages, political office, and public scrutiny in Nigeria. Many are watching closely to see whether the Edo Assembly will treat the matter as a straightforward breach of legislative ethics or whether broader issues of privacy, gender dynamics, and the pressures of public life will come into play during the committee hearings.
Whatever the outcome, the saga has ensured that both the Edo State House of Assembly and the Idibia family will remain in the headlines for weeks to come. For now, the clock is ticking for Honourable Natasha Osawaru Irobosa to face her colleagues and clear her name – or face the consequences of a House determined to safeguard its reputation at all costs.
