In a display of widespread appreciation, residents, traders, and motorists in Effurun and Warri, Delta State, turned out in large numbers to celebrate and praise Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as he personally drove through and inspected the ongoing construction sites of the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction Flyovers, along with sections of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road reconstruction. The governor's hands-on approach, including walking through the Enerhen Junction site, elicited enthusiastic cheers, with locals hailing him as "the people's Governor" for his transformative efforts in revitalizing the Warri-Effurun metropolis and other parts of the state.
The visit, which occurred ahead of the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities, highlighted significant progress on these multi-billion naira infrastructure projects awarded to renowned construction firm Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. Residents expressed profound gratitude for the governor's commitment to easing long-standing traffic congestion, promising their unwavering support and votes in the 2027 elections while praying for his continued protection and divine guidance in advancing Delta State.
Speaking to journalists after the walkthrough at Enerhen Junction, an visibly pleased Governor Oborevwori voiced strong satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the flyovers and road dualization initiatives. He revealed that he had personally appealed to Julius Berger to temporarily open key sections of the structures during the holiday season to alleviate traffic pressures. “I appealed to Julius Berger that because of Christmas and New Year, they should make sure that the flyovers are temporarily opened for use, because these areas are very important to the people,” he disclosed.
Acknowledging the hardships endured by residents over the past year due to construction disruptions, Oborevwori empathized deeply: “I know what the people have gone through, and I feel their pain. But when there is pain, there will be enjoyment at the end of the project. The Warri and Effurun people are very happy as you can see.” He pointed out tangible relief already provided, noting that one side of the Enerhen flyover is nearly complete and in temporary use, while both sides of the DSC flyover have been opened to traffic for the festive period, significantly reducing the notorious gridlock in these areas.
“Before now, Enerhen had become something else; but what we are seeing today is different. This is what we want to do for the people of Warri and Effurun,” the governor added, emphasizing his administration's focus on delivering lasting solutions.
On the timeline for full completion, Oborevwori expressed confidence that the three flyovers—part of a broader N78 billion package including cloverleaf interchanges, pedestrian bridges, and road expansions—along with the dualization works, would be finalized during the upcoming dry season. “You can see the work going on. By this dry season, they should be able to complete the three flyovers and the dualisation. Everything is going on well; there is nothing to worry about,” he assured.
Praising Julius Berger for their exemplary workmanship, the governor noted that engaging the firm—a rarity for many states—reflects Delta's commitment to durable, high-standard infrastructure. The projects, flagged off in November 2023 with a 27-30 month timeline targeting December 2025 handover, encompass flyovers at PTI Junction, DSC Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction to Marine Gate, alongside extensive road expansions on the Effurun-Patani East-West Highway and DSC/NPA Expressway.
These initiatives form a cornerstone of Oborevwori's M.O.R.E Agenda (Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, Enhanced Peace and Security), aimed at decongesting traffic, boosting economic activity, and restoring the glory of the oil-rich twin cities. Residents' jubilant response underscores the projects' impact, with many describing the temporary openings as a timely festive gift providing much-needed relief.
In his Christmas message to Deltans, Governor Oborevwori reiterated the prevailing peace across the state and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. “There is peace everywhere. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. God bless you all,” he said, calling for continued unity and support as the administration accelerates development.
The governor's inspection and the public's ovation highlight a growing optimism in Delta State, where infrastructure renewal is fostering economic revival and improved quality of life amid the holiday season.
