Nigeria's Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume Marries Queen Zaynab Otiti-Obanor, Former Wife of Ooni of Ife

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, formerly known as Zaynab Otiti-Obanor, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The union, described as a "beautiful" and "uncommon" addition to the Akume household, was publicly announced on December 26, 2025, through a celebratory social media post by a family member.
The announcement came from Abraham Double-d Dajoh, a member of the Dajoh family from Benue State, who shared the news on Facebook. In the post, the family expressed collective joy and formally welcomed Queen Zaynab into their fold. “We, the entire Dajoh Family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, The Secretary To The Government Of The Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the statement read. It continued: “We appreciate and thank the fans and supporters of Sen. Akume for always standing by him. We enjoin every one of you to continue to support his Excellency even in this beautiful union with Queen Zaynab.”


The family extended a warm cultural welcome, inviting her to Benue State—"the Food Basket of the Nation"—to Mbakor, the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation, and to the Dajoh family home. “Welcome to Benue State, the Food Basket of the Nation, welcome to Mbakor, the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation and welcome to the Dajoh family, the home of your darling husband. Welcome home, Queen Zaynab,” the post concluded, coinciding with post-Christmas greetings wishing Nigerians a prosperous New Year.
Akume's spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, confirmed the marriage when contacted by media outlets on December 26, 2025. However, he clarified that the union is not recent, stating it has been in place for over a year. This countered circulating rumors suggesting the marriage was formalized on Christmas Eve during a public appearance in Gboko, Benue State.
Queen Zaynab, originally from Edo State, was previously married to the Ooni of Ife in a high-profile traditional ceremony on March 12, 2016, in Benin City, followed by a reception in Ile-Ife. Known then as Olori Wuraola, the marriage lasted approximately 17 months, ending in August 2017. She publicly confirmed the separation on Instagram, dismissing rumors of infidelity and infertility, and reverted to her maiden name, Zaynab Otiti-Obanor. Post-divorce, she relocated to Doha, Qatar, focused on humanitarian work with the United Nations, and was reportedly married to a wealthy individual with whom she had a child in 2022. Reports indicate this is her fourth marriage.








Akume, a veteran politician and former Governor of Benue State, serves as a key figure in President Bola Tinubu's administration. The news has generated significant online discussion, blending political intrigue with personal life details. Photos accompanying the family post show Queen Zaynab with Dajoh family members, emphasizing cultural integration.
The development raises questions about Akume's prior marriage to Regina Akume, a current House of Representatives member, as no public record of divorce has surfaced. Nonetheless, the family announcement portrays the union positively, urging continued support for the SGF.
This personal milestone for Akume comes amid his official duties coordinating government policies, highlighting the intersection of public service and private life in Nigerian politics.
