In the spirit of the 2025 Christmas season, Hon. Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko, the Member of the House of Representatives representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency in Delta State, has continued his annual tradition of grassroots engagement with a remarkable outreach program. The highlight was a grand hosting event at his country home in Erawha-Owhe, where he brought together a diverse array of political stakeholders from across the Isoko Nation. This gathering, marked by warmth, unity, and shared aspirations, extended his Christmas outreach to all 24 wards in his constituency, emphasizing inclusivity and communal joy.
The event drew serving councillors from both Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas, along with their immediate predecessors, showcasing a deep respect for continuity in leadership and the value of experience. Incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairmen and women were present, joined by former ward executives from various political backgrounds who have now aligned with the APC. This cross-party inclusion highlighted a maturing political landscape in Isoko Nation, where past divisions are giving way to collective purpose, fostering stronger cohesion and a sense of shared responsibility for development.
Ward women leaders, both current and former, also attended in full force, adding vibrancy to the occasion. Rep. Ukodhiko, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Science and Technology, specially acknowledged the pivotal role of women in politics. He described them as the "engine room" of the party, urging them to maintain vigorous mobilization efforts, promote unity, and engage positively within their communities. He expressed unwavering confidence in their capabilities and pledged ongoing support to empower their leadership roles.
Addressing the assembled leaders, Ukodhiko explained that the gathering was designed to celebrate the Yuletide season with those who form the bedrock of grassroots governance and party structure—the ward-level organizers and councillors who tirelessly serve their communities. He called for sustained support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration at the federal level and Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori's leadership in Delta State. Additionally, he solicited prayers for himself, the President, and the Governor, recognizing the challenges of governance and the need for divine guidance.
The lawmaker emphasized his openness to constructive feedback, encouraging loyalty to the APC while charging all leaders to remain dedicated to service beyond their tenures. "Leadership is a lifelong responsibility," he stressed, underscoring that true commitment to the people transcends official positions.
In response, Hon. Paschal Emeluaha, Leader of the Isoko North Legislative Arm, spoke on behalf of the councillors. He conveyed profound appreciation for Ukodhiko's thoughtful gesture, calling it timely and deeply motivating amid the festive period. Emeluaha praised the representative's inclusive approach and consistent focus on the welfare of constituents, noting how such initiatives strengthen bonds and inspire greater dedication.
The event concluded on a high note of joy and conviviality, with women leaders breaking into songs of praise and thanksgiving, filling the atmosphere with cultural richness and gratitude. A standout feature was the generous distribution of bags of rice to both serving and former councillors and party officials. This act complemented the broader outreach program, which has seen rice and traditional wrappers distributed across all 24 federal wards in the constituency. In each ward, 100 carefully selected beneficiaries received these items, ensuring that the Christmas spirit reaches households far and wide, particularly those in need.
This extensive distribution underscores Rep. Ukodhiko's commitment to tangible impact, sharing the season's blessings equitably and reinforcing community ties. In a time when economic pressures affect many Nigerian families, such palliatives provide meaningful relief, fostering goodwill and hope.
The outreach reflects broader themes of unity and support prevalent in Nigerian politics during festive periods. By bridging current and former leaders, and even incorporating those from other parties into the APC fold, Ukodhiko is building a more unified front in Isoko Nation. This approach not only strengthens the APC's grassroots base but also promotes peaceful political coexistence, essential for sustainable development in the region.
