Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate, has been bestowed with a prestigious Integrity Award by the Urhobo People Integrity Organisation (UPIO) in recognition of his outstanding and effective legislative representation. The award was conferred during UPIO's 2025 awards ceremony held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Bon Hotel Hyatt in Ekpan, Delta State.
The event drew prominent Urhobo stakeholders, traditional leaders, and community figures from across Delta State and beyond, celebrating public officers whose contributions have tangibly uplifted the Urhobo nation—one of Nigeria's major ethnic groups predominantly in Delta Central. The gathering underscored a collective appreciation for integrity, accountability, and impactful governance.
UPIO President, Olorogun Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, explained that the award honors Senator Dafinone's "immeasurable contributions to the growth and advancement of the Urhobo Nation." He highlighted Dafinone's instrumental role in restoring peace to the Okuama community following a tragic military incursion in early 2024, which resulted in significant loss of life and displacement. Additionally, Okorodudu praised the senator's tireless advocacy that led to the release of the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Clement Ikolo, who had been detained in connection with the incident.
In a symbolic gesture emphasizing the personal impact of Dafinone's interventions, the award was presented on behalf of UPIO by HRM Clement Ikolo himself. It was received by the senator's Chief of Staff, Olorogun Barr. Adelabu Bodjor, who stood in for Dafinone.
In a heartfelt appreciation message delivered at the ceremony, Senator Dafinone described the recognition as profound motivation. "This honour serves as a motivation to do more for the Urhobo people at all levels," he stated, while assuring UPIO of his "continued partnership and support." He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to people-centered representation, rooted in peace-building, justice, and sustainable development across Urhoboland.
The ceremony was chaired by the President General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Olorogun Barr. Ese Gam Owe, whose presence lent significant weight to the occasion. Olorogun Ese Gam commended Senator Dafinone for his exemplary legislative stewardship, urging him to persist in promoting and safeguarding Urhobo interests at the national level. He further called on all Urhobo sons and daughters—both at home and in the diaspora—to unite in efforts toward the collective advancement and betterment of the Urhobo Nation.
Dafinone, a first-term senator elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, has built a reputation for responsive representation since assuming office. His interventions in the Okuama crisis—marked by advocacy for dialogue, humanitarian aid coordination, and justice for affected communities—have been widely acknowledged as pivotal in de-escalating tensions and facilitating rebuilding efforts. The release of HRM Ikolo, a revered traditional ruler, further solidified Dafinone's standing as a bridge-builder between grassroots communities and federal authorities.
The UPIO Integrity Award adds to a growing list of accolades for Dafinone, reflecting broad-based endorsement from his constituents. Attendees at the event included traditional rulers, business leaders, academics, and youth representatives, all echoing themes of unity and progress for Urhoboland amid Nigeria's complex socio-political landscape.
This recognition comes at a time when ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta continue to advocate for equitable development, resource control, and peace. Dafinone's focus on legislative oversight, constituency projects, and conflict resolution aligns with these aspirations, positioning him as a key voice for Delta Central in the 10th National Assembly.
As Urhobo leaders rally behind figures like Dafinone, the award serves as both celebration and call to action—reinforcing the imperative for ethical leadership and communal solidarity in advancing the Urhobo agenda.
