Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, joined family, friends, community leaders, and well-wishers in a heartfelt thanksgiving service to celebrate the 60th birthday of renowned business mogul, philanthropist, and community leader High Chief (Dr.) Victor Emonena Wayles Egukawhore (JP). The event took place at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Okpolo-Enhwe, Isoko South Local Government Area, where the governor extolled the celebrant's unwavering character, passion for development, and lifelong dedication to uplifting his people.
In his address during the service, Governor Oborevwori described Chief Egukawhore as a man of proven integrity, consistent disposition, and deep-rooted commitment to community progress. He highlighted that reaching the milestone of 60 years is a clear testament to God's faithfulness and grace, emphasizing that the most meaningful way to mark such an occasion is through sincere thanksgiving and returning glory to the Almighty. The governor, who has known the celebrant for many years, affirmed that Egukawhore's energy, sense of purpose, and passion have remained remarkably constant throughout his life journey.
Oborevwori stressed that true success is never accidental but stems from divine favour, strong moral values, humility, and a profound respect for one's roots. He commended Chief Egukawhore for his consistent investment in the people of Enhwe, other parts of Isoko land, and beyond, including Patani in Delta South. These philanthropic efforts—ranging from infrastructure support, skill acquisition programs, and direct assistance to vulnerable groups—have endeared him to a wide circle of admirers and solidified his legacy as a generous leader.
The governor prayed fervently for continued divine protection, robust health, and abundant blessings upon Chief Egukawhore and his entire family. He urged the celebrant to remain steadfast in acknowledging God as the ultimate source of wisdom, opportunities, and increase, encouraging him to keep using his resources to bless others and contribute to societal advancement.
The thanksgiving service featured a powerful homily delivered by Rt. Rev. John Usiwoma Aruakpor, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Oleh. Drawing from Psalm 139:14–18, the bishop preached on the doctrine of God's providence, reminding the congregation that every human life is "fearfully and wonderfully made" and intimately known to God even before birth. He explained that survival, progress, and achievements are not products of luck or mere human strength but manifestations of divine grace and mercy.
Bishop Aruakpor further emphasized that life is a sacred stewardship entrusted by God, intended for purposeful service to others. He called on Chief Egukawhore, the congregation, and all present to live with gratitude, humility, and obedience to divine will, deploying their talents, time, and resources to uplift communities and society at large.
In a notable endorsement of governance, the bishop praised Governor Oborevwori for his visible achievements and responsive, people-centred leadership. He pointed to the administration's infrastructure developments—roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, and urban renewal projects—that he said compare favourably with global standards. Bishop Aruakpor expressed strong confidence in Oborevwori's continued service to Delta State and Nigeria, asserting that genuine performance speaks louder than political campaigns. He urged critics to engage constructively rather than complain from afar, describing the Oborevwori government as approachable, inclusive, and committed to collective progress. The cleric called for unified support to enable the governor to deliver even more dividends of democracy.
In his response, the celebrant, High Chief Victor Emonena Wayles Egukawhore, expressed profound gratitude to God for His faithfulness throughout his life. He reflected on a journey marked by enduring friendships, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to good deeds. At 60, he reaffirmed his dedication to service, community development, and living purposefully in faith. As Chairman of the De Wayles Group of Companies—a conglomerate with interests in marine services, construction, and other sectors—Egukawhore has long been recognized for blending business acumen with philanthropy, often supporting education, health initiatives, and local empowerment programs in Isoko and Ndokwa areas.
The thanksgiving service attracted a distinguished array of attendees, including Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, prominent business figures such as Chief Johnbull Ejovi, Chief Eta Enahoro, Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, High Chief Tunde Smooth, Chief Broderick Arigbodi, and Chief Daniel Omoyibo, alongside traditional rulers, political leaders, clergy, and community elders. The presence of these dignitaries underscored Chief Egukawhore's wide network and the respect he commands across Delta State.
The occasion reflects the cultural importance of milestone birthdays in Delta communities, where thanksgiving services combine spiritual reflection, communal unity, and appreciation for life's achievements. Chief Egukawhore's 60th birthday celebration—his diamond jubilee—serves as an inspiring example of how personal success can translate into collective upliftment, earning praise from the state's highest leadership.
As Governor Oborevwori continues to prioritize inclusive governance and community partnerships, events like this reinforce the value of leaders who invest in their roots while contributing to broader state development.
