The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially constituted sub-committees to oversee preparations for its 2026 national convention, the party announced on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in a statement issued in Abuja by National Publicity Secretary Barr. Felix Morka.
The committees are tasked with coordinating all operational, administrative, electoral, logistical, security, and programme activities to ensure a transparent, credible, and hitch-free convention exercise.
Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State will chair the aspirants’ screening committee, with Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo serving as co-chairman and former Senate President Ken Nnamani as vice-chairman.
The screening appeal committee will be headed by Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, alongside Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru and former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has been appointed chairman of the election committee, with former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in key leadership positions.
The election appeal committee will be chaired by Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as co-chairman and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as vice-chairman.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will lead the finance committee, supported by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as co-chairman and Finance Minister Wale Edun as vice-chairman.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio will chair the ceremonial, programme, and events committee, with Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume in supporting roles.
The delegates’ accreditation committee will be headed by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, with Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin assisting.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has been assigned to chair the media and publicity committee.
In the statement, the APC urged all committee members to discharge their responsibilities with utmost diligence, integrity, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and approved guidelines for the convention.
“The party remains committed to conducting a credible and transparent national convention that strengthens internal democracy and consolidates its progressive ideals,” the statement read.
The composition reflects a deliberate effort to involve sitting governors, presiding officers of the National Assembly, and senior party figures in key roles, ensuring broad representation and institutional buy-in across the federation.
The 2026 national convention is expected to be a pivotal event for the APC, serving as a platform to elect new national officers, review party performance, and set strategic direction ahead of the 2027 general elections. With President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its third year and mid-term elections approaching in several states, the convention will also provide an opportunity to reinforce party unity, address internal grievances, and project a cohesive front.
The announcement comes amid ongoing internal realignments within the APC, including recent high-profile defections and efforts to expand the party’s footprint in opposition strongholds. The inclusion of governors from diverse geopolitical zones and ideological leanings in leadership positions is seen as a strategic move to foster inclusivity and reduce factional tensions.
No date for the convention has been publicly announced, but party sources indicate preparations are accelerating, with the sub-committees expected to commence work immediately.
The APC reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and adherence to due process in all convention activities.
