The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State successfully conducted its ward congresses across the state on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with Uvwie Local Government Area (LGA) recording a particularly smooth, inclusive, and hitch-free process. The exercise, aimed at electing new ward executives to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure ahead of future elections, was closely monitored by top party leaders including the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo SAN, the Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, and the Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni JP.
The high-powered delegation embarked on an extensive tour of congress venues across the ten wards in Uvwie LGA, ensuring transparency, orderliness, and broad participation. Their presence underscored the party’s commitment to internal democracy, consensus-building, and unity as the APC consolidates its structures in Delta Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The tour began at Alegbor Primary School, venue for Ward 1 congress. The turnout was massive, with party faithful warmly receiving the minister, the state revenue boss, and the council chairman. Ward 1—home to influential figures such as Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, Mr. Sonny Akporokiamo Ekedayen, Hon. Edafe Emakpor, and Hon. Evelyn Oboro—demonstrated strong enthusiasm for the new leadership. By consensus, Mr. Peter Egere emerged as the new Ward 1 Chairman, tasked with leading the ward in line with the APC constitution until the end of his tenure.
Next, the team visited Ward 7, the home ward of Council Chairman Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni JP. Party members welcomed the delegation with excitement, reflecting a high level of cooperation and consensus. The congress successfully produced Mr. Olughor Oboakpororo as the new Ward 7 Chairman, alongside other consensually elected executives.
In Ward 2—the ward of the Honourable Minister Olorogun Festus Keyamo—the atmosphere was electric as party faithful chanted “Ward 2! Power!” upon the arrival of the monitoring team. Held at the Ogbe Primary School field, the congress was seamless and produced Mr. Esiekpe Edafe Desmond as the new Chairman. The outcome reflects the minister’s long-standing efforts to build a united and formidable APC structure in his home ward.
The delegation proceeded to Urhobo Model College, Effurun, for the Ward 3 congress, where a commendable level of orderliness prevailed. With respected leader Sir Efe Okoledo among its ranks, the ward elected Mr. Jaho Jerkins as Chairman, charged with coordinating party activities to drive growth and electoral success in Ward 3.
At Ward 5, presided over by Shepherd Victor Akaighe, the team witnessed impressive coordination and enthusiasm. Home to Hon. Chief Ramson Onoyake, the ward consensually elected Chief Sunny Okeke as its new Chairman, together with a full complement of executives.
The monitoring exercise extended to Wards 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10, where similar patterns of peace, large turnout, and consensus emerged. The flawless conduct across all ten wards reaffirmed that the APC in Uvwie LGA is firmly rooted at the grassroots and well-positioned for future electoral victories.
Olorogun Festus Keyamo, visibly pleased with the proceedings, commended party leaders across the wards for their collective efforts in ensuring a hitch-free congress. He emphasized that the outcome demonstrated a deliberate sacrifice of personal interests for the greater good of the party. “We have worked very hard. We have consulted very much. We have carried out the principle of inclusion, so what you are seeing here is a result of inclusive consultations,” the minister stated.
