Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has inaugurated the newly completed Model Technical College in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area, describing technical and vocational education as a powerful solution to youth unemployment across Nigeria.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Monday, February 2, 2026, the governor emphasized that graduates from such institutions would emerge as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and job creators rather than job seekers. He positioned the college as a flagship project under his administration’s MORE Agenda, highlighting its role in equipping young people with globally competitive, practical skills.
Oborevwori noted that some achievements speak louder through action than words, pointing out that his government has delivered numerous landmark projects in under two years without borrowing or imposing new taxes on residents.
“Even I am often amazed at how much we have been able to achieve within two years without borrowing and without burdening the people. This project we are commissioning today is a clear example of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly, and that is why delivery was timely,” he said.
The governor revealed that academic activities had already begun at the college in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students, ensuring the state-of-the-art facilities were put to immediate use rather than left idle. He described the early start as proof of the institution’s full readiness and operational excellence.
The Model Technical College, Omadino features 12 modern classrooms, nine fully equipped workshops and laboratories, two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge, a corps members’ lodge, a dining hall, a clinic, a spacious school hall, a football pitch, a basketball court, a generator house, and operational quarters. The comprehensive infrastructure is designed to support effective teaching, learning, residential welfare, recreation, and administration.
Oborevwori credited his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the project and expressed pride in completing it to a high standard. “Today, I am pleased to see a beautiful and solid edifice standing proudly. We give God all the glory. Any student, lecturer or staff member would be proud to be associated with this institution,” he said.
He praised the confidence, articulation, and composure demonstrated by a student who addressed the gathering, attributing it to the quality of instruction already taking place. The governor stressed that modern educational facilities create conducive learning environments, boost student performance, enhance teacher effectiveness, and foster pride in the school community.
“With the high-quality facilities provided here, I am confident that students of this college can compete with the best anywhere in the world. All workshops and laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities,” he added.
Reaffirming his administration’s focus on education, Oborevwori assured residents that the government would continue upgrading infrastructure across Delta State to provide complete, functional education and relevant skills for the global economy. He appealed to management, staff, students, and host communities to maintain the facilities, describing government property as taxpayers’ commonwealth that must be protected from vandalism and neglect.
State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the college as more than a school—it is a bold statement of purpose and a symbol of transformation for technical education in Delta State. He highlighted the overwhelming response from the Omadino community and surrounding areas since classes began.
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his people-centered leadership and numerous development projects in Warri and beyond. He cited major achievements including the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges, extensive road networks, improved drainage systems that have reduced flooding, and the near-completion of the Warri Modern Stadium. Agbateyiniro noted that development has reached every senatorial district, federal constituency, local government, and community in less than three years, describing the governor’s approach as fair, inclusive, and impactful. He affirmed strong support for Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, thanked the governor for prioritizing riverine communities and urged continued investment in schools, bridges, roads, and jetties across such areas.
Representing the students, Miss Courtney Omotoyine called the commissioning the fulfillment of a long-held dream and a major step toward securing brighter futures for young people in Delta State and Nigeria. She urged fellow students to use the facilities responsibly and pursue excellence.
The event drew high-profile dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbegbaku, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Udeze Somtochukwu, and other top officials.
The inauguration was met with widespread jubilation from students, staff, parents, community leaders, and residents, who hailed the college as a game-changer for skills development and economic empowerment in the region.
